Frequently Asked Questions

What is the success rate of the course?

Close to 100% of clients report managing better than they had in the past and all of our feedback has been extremely positive.  The outcomes rely to a large extent on how much people are willing to try out new techniques and challenge themselves. No negative feedback has been received.

How will I know if this will work for me?

We offer the chance of a free telephone consultation with one of our Psychologists who will discuss your particular anxiety. They will only recommend you proceed with the course if in their opinion, they can treat your anxiety.

Are there any guarantees I will be cured?

Unfortunately, as with most anxieties, there can be no guarantees of success. However as mentioned above we have extremely high success rates and are very thorough with the treatment program. The course covers everything we feel is important and due to the structure of either Individual or small group sessions, we can spend plenty of time focusing on individual issues.

Where are the sessions conducted?

The psychology sessions are generally conducted at the local Psychologist rooms and the Aviation Education (Airline Pilot) session is either conducted at the Psychologists rooms or at the Flight Experience store. Of course, the simulator session is in the Boeing 737 simulator at the Flight Experience location. In the case of Live Webinars, the first three stages are performed over the internet and the simulator session is conducted at the nearest store to you.

How does the Live Webinar work?

We provide a link for you to log in to our Webinar platform and all you need is a good internet connection, a webcam and a microphone. If you have a laptop, tablet or phone generally they have the camera and the microphone built in. We will send you a Participants Manual and then we will help with any technical challenges that may occur. These days the Webinar platforms are pretty simple to use and quite stable.

How often are the courses available?

Basically, we are available ‘on demand’. It’s simply a matter of deciding which is best for you – Individual or Group, and based on that we can schedule the sessions. If you choose Individual, then we can start more or less as soon as you and the Psychologist can meet for the first session. For Group it can be a little longer as we will liaise with attendees to set session dates and times.

How long are the sessions and how long to complete the whole course?

The course sessions are detailed on the Course Structure page page, with the time dependent on Individual or Group sessions. We recommend approximately four (4) weeks to complete the course, based on one session a week, but this can be shortened our extended based on yours and the Psychologists availability or the need to complete earlier due to an upcoming flying trip.

What if I have a flight scheduled in the very near future?

Depending on how soon your departure is we will do our best to accommodate your needs, however in certain circumstances, we may decline to treat your anxiety due to the time restriction. The success of the course relies on completing all sessions in a timely manner, with enough time between sessions to absorb and deal with the knowledge gained. This will differ from person to person.

Is one of the Psychologists or Pilots able to take a real flight with me?

Yes, this can be arranged, but you would have to pay for the airfares and time of our consultants. We are willing to work with you to make this as cost-effective as possible.

Once the course is complete can I do more sessions at a later stage if I want?

Yes, more sessions with any of the course components are available, but with an additional cost. These costs are as follows:

  • Psychology Sessions – $200 per hour

  • Aviation Education – $180 per hour

  • Simulator Sessions

    • $455 per hour for Individual Sessions including the Psychologist

    • $250 per hour for Group Sessions including the Psychologist

    • $345 per hour for Individual or Group without the Psychologist, but with a Qualified Fear of Flying Instructor

How do I know if I’m eligible to claim the Medicare rebate?

Our Psychologists will advise you on the process required around Medicare rebate eligibility. You will be required to visit your own GP and apply for a Care Plan. In most circumstances, the GP is happy to accommodate. Please note that the Medicare rebates are not currently available for the Live Webinars.

If I start the Course and then decide it’s not for me, can I get a refund?

Yes, in most cases you would be able to receive a refund for the unused sessions less an administration fee; however, there may be certain circumstances, around the timings or notice of your cancellation where the refund may not be available.

If I start a Group session but then want to move to Individual sessions, is this possible?

Yes, this would be possible, although if you were in a Group session with only two participants there may be extra charges to cover the other party, as they would be forced to either wait for another Group or continue as an Individual as well.

Will I be flying the Boeing 737 Flight Simulator?

This will entirely up to you. Initially, you are there to observe and learn about areas that concern you. However, if you feel you want a turn at the controls we are more than happy to allow this. Remember you will be with the Psychologist and a Qualified Flight Instructor at all times, so you can ask their opinion.
