“Being able to gain an understanding of aeronautics from an aviation professional – in his case, a former Cathay Pacific pilot – was the most valuable part of the experience.
“He really went into the nitty-gritty of how there are six or seven back-up plans and systems and how there would need to be multiple failures for something to really go wrong.
“I’m an analytical person, someone who needs that sort of evidence. It was a complete turnaround for me. And the session in the simulator, looking at the instruments and tools, how the plane takes off and how it flies, allowed me to picture what happens in the cockpit, to see that it’s not all frantic and a scene of mayhem if the weather’s bad.” –

– my flights were all fantastic and I was so calm, I honestly surprised myself and can happily say that I’m no longer nervous AT ALL when flying. I did all flights on my own and it was so helpful to know that I knew what all of the noises meant, had exercises to do in case I became anxious however I honestly didn’t need to calm myself down – it was incredible, I actually enjoyed the flights and was even upgraded on my LA – SYD flight! ”Flew to Melbourne last weekend – the flight down was excellent.
I put everything into practice – ie. things I’d usually avoid. I sat at the window seat, looked out the window to the ocean, didn’t drown out noises of take off. Did the breathing exercises and muscle relaxation, and kept reinforcing positive thoughts. Was actually pretty proud of myself, and my fiancee said it was the most relaxed he’s been on a flight with me, as I didn’t grip his hand once or look at him panicked! So that was awesome! “The Pilot Session today was fantastic! Absolutely fascinating.
Mike went way over time and I could have stayed for hours longer. I was enjoying the discussion so much the time flew by. Mike relieved so many of my fears and I feel much more confident about flying after my session with him. I think the Pilot Session and probably the Flight simulator are the best and most effective aspects of your program. At least, they are what makes the difference with “Flight Experience” and seeing an independent Psychologist to deal with fear of flying. “I spent the whole day getting my affairs in order to be away for over a month and went calmly through the process.
Also, my flight back from Sydney last time was fine. We had to circle for over half an hour above Singapore because of really bad weather conditions and couldn’t land and I was fine. I’m not sure that I won’t have difficult moments in the future, but I would like to say that the course has really helped me, in a way that would have been hard to imagine at the outset. I do not have Julian’s or Captain Hawkes email address with me here at the airport so please pass on my thanks to them. “I haven’t been back to my home country Ireland for many years now, the primary reason was my fear of flying.
Having recently completed the Fear of Flying course through Flight Experience WA it gave me the confidence to fly and I recently returned from a two week holiday in Ireland. I could not have done this without the help and support of the entire team at flight experience. The team worked with me one on one throughout the many aspects of flying and my fear, they taught me the techniques to relax and walked me through their Boeing 737-800 simulator looking at take offs and landings the noises that the aeroplane makes. This gave me the complete confidence to get on my flight home. ”The first flight I felt very mildly anxious. I was waiting for ‘crazy lady’ to appear, and that I would breathe through it and all would work out fine.
